We start with a vision of equal access...
The pathway to sobriety is difficult with even the most caring and constant support structures. Imagine the difficulties for those who are trying to break the chains of addiction only to find that the doors to those support structures are closed to them. That's the reality for many in our hometown who have been told that the labels attributed to them make them ineligible for what should be an equal opportunity to get the help needed on the path to sobriety. They have been asked to deny who they are in order to have a chance at a life free from Substance Use Disorder. Shame is not a starting point for successful living in recovery.
Within the structure of the Twelve Steps, Door To Serenity is being created to address the needs of those who seek our help on their road to recovery. Without respect to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity, Door To Serenity welcomes the under-served who have tried unsuccessfully to address the pain of living through Substance Use Disorder and want to start a new chapter, living in recovery from addition.
Established as a 501 (c) (3), Door To Serenity is open to the support, financial or in-kind, from those who share the vision of unfettered access to the help we offer. We encourage all who visit us here to spread the word that there is a ray of hope for the disenfranchised and the possibility of living in recovery may be only a phone call away. Our calling is to love without limit and to serve without judgment.

Who We Are
<
>
Her goals for Door to Serenity and Harbor House are immediate and, frankly, a little overwhelming. But, in her words, "what else can I do? Standing by is no longer an option." So, taking a cue from Mother Teresa, she has decided to "start where she is, with what she has, to do what she can" to help those who find the will to seek recovery may not be enough when the doors are closed. Simply put, she is working to create a new door.
Laurye also lives out her sobriety and she shares a heart for those who have no voice. The communities who already feel the stigma of "different" and "unwanted" will find a warm, caring heart and strong sense of dedication in Laurye.

Why we're hereWe believe in the healing power of love in action. Our lives have been made better by the love in action of those who paved the way for us and we feel a mission to make that same love in action a viable and sustainable option for those who choose to open the door to sobriety. Because we believe in the infinite variety of life, we make Serenity House an open and welcoming haven for ALL who may have experienced (or caused) damage through Substance Use Disorder. We are open to everyone who earnestly seeks sobriety regardless of race, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. We acknowledge and affirm the miracle that is God manifesting life and support all around us but do not require or claim a specific path to seeking that power and aid in the path to recovery. Faith, like life itself, takes many forms and we support recovery rather than religion. "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
